Inscribed verso, 'Capt J. G. Homfrey ownes all the horses trained by R Sherwood at St Gatlen House Newmarket and is a famous and familiar figure at all the big meetings "Landleaque" Carried the black and red jacket of victory in the Cambridgeshire of 1907, Sherwood being the successful trainer in those days so the partnership is and old and popular one and continues still to carry off a fair share of the spoils ***** Flat race season. Capt Homfray is a steward of the Jockey Club Gordon Richards is his Champion Jockey and often has a leg up on the Gallant Captains Horses.'

Artist's Biography:
BUCHANAN Peter Ronald C. 1870-1950
Known as The Tout he worked as a sports cartoonist and caricaturist for the News of the World and Tatler in the 1930’s and exhibited 128 drawings at Walker's Gallery, London, in 1931.
Produced two full page collections of racing driver caricatures for The Motor Magazine. These were given away as colour supplements on 3rd August and 26th September 1922, his main subjects were horse racing; owners, breeders and jockeys.

"
